Winter... it's not all bad!

Well, yesterday I was all wingey, moany over the cold, winter weather. I'm over it now, and apologies for being so ho hum...

I like to think I'm pretty upbeat, positive and big on not letting the things I can't change stress or bring me down, but I guess we all have our moments and yesterday was mine.. all just because it was cold! Duh! Pathetic I know but I needed to get it out of my system and now it's done and over with... woohoo!

Moving on....

Check this out:

Tomorrow my girls and I are setting off on another girlie adventure... a day trip to the snow!

Big Little Miss M's instructions at bedtime when I told her and Little Little Miss M that they had to sleep so I could finish organising things for the snow trip was to make sure I'd packed a snowman kit, with extra emphasis on there MUST be a carrot for the nose! (Found some googly eyes to pop on him too... I had forgotten I'd bought a container of about... ooh... maybe 200 googly eyes in all different sizes, until I was cleaning out the depths of my car boot earlier today only to discover the container had rolled right to the back, burst open and scattered googly eyes EVERYWHERE back there!)

So, I'm super excited - not a fan of winter but ironically LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the snow... I so hope that my little ones do too - I'd love to go for a few days next time and have them take ski lessons (and to get in some skiing and boarding myself).

I'm like a big kid right now... I'm hyper alert and not able to sleep because I'm excited but at the same time I know I need to because I've about a 2.5 - 3hr drive tomorrow to get there!

Really. Must. Sleep.....

"Thick draws the dark..."

Winter... I'll be honest and tell you I'm not a fan.

The cold, the grey, the drizzle, the icy wind, the ever runny nose... unless I could spend all winter on the ski slopes I do not think I will ever be a winter convert.

Yes, there's the argument that you can always put on more clothes, rug up against the cold but I hate being padded up like the Michelin man, there are only so many layers one can wear without looking ridiculous and then there's my gas bill... oh my - winter is only just setting in, the carbon tax hasn't even hit the bill yet and this last quarter is already nudging the way too expensive!

Maybe it's not that I dislike winter but that I love summer too much? Hmm, maybe I'm just lying to myself with that one?!? I miss my Queensland sun and beach side life just a teensy bit today :(

Winter is just ever so depressive... I want to love it more, I do. I am just not sure I know how!

I'm demotivated and I need to just snap out of it lest I begin to eat myself to oblivion...

Be back soon - hopefully cheerier and sparkier than today!

Oh, a bright note in an otherwise dull post... my little girl (Big Little Miss M) had her enrolment accepted for next year to the school we really wanted her to get into - a relief since I'd heard they had for the first time ever more enrolments than positions.

Oooh... and just because it's really not all that bad, my girls and I are going to set off for a day trip to the snow this coming week provided it's not too wet and slushy up on the hill! YAY - it will be their first time to see, touch, feel (and maybe taste) snow!!!

Till next time

Instagram: my quasi-new obsession

Okay, no sewing projects... well, no completed ones anyway... to show you all - but there's a couple that are almost there!

I know, I know... it seems I'm just stringing you all (well, that's if there's anyone out there reading) along...

Hmm... does it irritate you that I totally abuse, misuse and thoroughly overuse ellipses to the point of ridiculousness?

Do you have a favourite grammatical word or punctuation mark that you love to use... both appropriately and inappropriately (and we're just talking typing here people!)...or are you, God-forbid, an unabashedly proud member of the grammar police? (I'd have probably lost you long ago, I'm thinking if you were... maybe?)

Anyhoo...

Onto Instagram, my new love... have I ever told you that I think I have a slightly obsessive, addictive trait? I find something new... a hobby, a website, gadget, a recipe - whatever... and it's my new in-thing till something newer, better, faster, or tastier takes my fancy... lucky my scope is fairly tame and lightly fanciful in this regard (does that even make sense? It does to me so I hope you get me... basically I am a creature of habit and loyalty with regard to the serious, heavy things in life but not so with the inconsequential...*sigh*...like Instagram)

Loving taking snaps and, if you've been reading along, taking part in FatMumSlims May photo challenge...

So here's the last three days:

Day 13: Mothers day with the very appropriate trigger word - Mum...
Here's a snap of my gorgeous Mum...

Day 14: Grass... of the lawn variety
So, here's a little patch of my back yard... along with a dandelion that was feeling a little like I was yesterday - all wished out!

And today, day 15: Love
My engagement, wedding and eternity rings.

♥An engagement band in anticipation of a future together...
♥A wedding band to promise to create just that...
♥An eternity ring for the birth of each of our daughters - the continuation of our future

By the way, and just because it feels right to say... Love is hard work in the real world - I don't think it's meant to be easy, even if I wish it were at times... I don't speak much of my husband on here - not for too many reasons other than I guess that this is MY little space, my time out from the real world - one of kiddie tantrums, grown up tantrums, bills to pay, dishes to wash, laundry, laundry and more laundry... and okay, lots of laughing, baking and finger painting too - I'm just a little private I guess with the super personal stuff and the hubs is even more private and basically I'm just not one to air dirty laundry... or super, sparkly, blind yourself bleachy clean laundry for that matter... oh, and there is also that thing with irrevocable and forever there internet reach... but just so you know - he exists, he's very special, he's a fantastical hand's on dad, he's very much a part of my everyday and I do love him hugely (even though and despite how he tells me I now have my life's quota of bling)!

Now back to my love of the moment - Instagram...

There's just one thing that Instagram has caused me to ponder, and that is why has my actual camera - you know that thing that's a bit bigger, and clunkier, and is purely designed for one thing only... taking photo's - become so redundant... It is presently my most expensive dust collector around here... often it seems my phone is able to produce nicer, sharper and more pleasing photo's; not to mention much easier to edit and play around with... the jury is out on whether I'm glad for this fact or not...

Or maybe I just need a fancier (aka more expensive) camera? Oohhh, I can dream about it at least!

Okay, I think I've rambled, gibbered and scattered my thoughts about here enough for tonight... it's time I got some sewing projects done!

DAY 3 - Photo a Day in May

Well, this is an extreme rarity... three posts in one day! This is short and sweet however as I continue my FatMumSlim photo a day project.

Theme of the day for day 2: Skyline

So, here is tonight's country skyline from the outskirts of my town...

Who doesn't love a sunset? I'm not totally thrilled (far from really) with my photo. I wanted to catch more colours but the best laid plans are made to go awry and I just couldn't get my girls all organised in time to catch the best bit of the sunset but nonetheless I'm glad I captured a little colour... five minutes later and the sky was pitch black.

Head on over to my sidebar there and click to follow my instagram if you like and be sure to let me know with a comment so I can follow back :)

Word of the moment...

Serendipity...

the phenomenon of finding valuable or favourable things not sought for

It's my word of the moment...

serendipities
serendipitous
serendipitously

Thank you Horace Wadpole, I do quite like this word....

So, what word do you just love? What is your word of the moment? One that makes you smile as it finds sound and shape rolling from your lips.

I have a few  okay lots and lots of words that I just love.

As a child I remember loving to learn and discover new words (yes, I was a bit of a nerd growing up... )
I'd love how if you said a word over and over it would seem to lose it's meaning and sound foreign and wrong.

My mother's first language is not English and I think this contributed to my fascination with words and their sounds... I'd spend hours pondering inconsequential thoughts like, who decides that a word means what it means and sounds the way it sounds. Followed by pondering's of how that same word could sound so different in a foreign language yet have the same meaning (and okay, I know now as an adult that these questions have legitimate and real answers but as a child these thoughts were my unanswered D&M's).

So, indulge me and my word fascination, share with me, and do tell, what one word is your word of the moment?

I'd love to know!

A childhood glimpse to treasure...

I do believe that my daughters allow me at times to glimpse the world once again through the eyes of a child.

They reminded me today about childhood fantasies and imaginings of princesses, fairytales and happily  ever  afters...

Nothing gave my girls more joy than being princesses for a day.

I'm looking at this photo and am filled with a beautiful serene happiness and love.

A Random Rambling...

Tonight the hubs and I had a night out together - just us, no kids in sight. Just for fun and for a laugh I kept referring to it all day as "date night"... each time I did it earnt an exaggerated eye roll from the husband which just made me laugh more and resolve to keep on referring to it more often as such at random points in the day.

Seriously, I love my two little girls beyond any words could quantify (and who before my eyes are growing up WAY. TOO. FAST) but it is nice to enjoy those rare and quiet times where it feels like we are a couple again rather than two people muddling through this thing called adulthood, responsibility and attempts at raising well rounded and balanced children.

Now don't get too excited for me... our "date night" was the simple bliss of a new release movie watched at the local cinema -  but oh how I'm sure all you parents will know how these simple, little things, taken for granted without their worth realised pre-children can take on immense currency once they are an almost forgotten memory lost amongst the laundry, nappies, laughter, tears, needs and wants of the little people who steal your heart and warm your soul...

Anyway, just a random funny (well I thought so anyhow)... Hubby and I have such different movie viewing styles - if there is such a thing. I'm one of those annoying cinema whisperers... a speculative and always guessing movie viewer... and I just feel like I'm busting if I can't tell someone as the thought, speculation or guess comes to mind. The hubby on the other hand relishes total movie viewing silence... a film totally devoid of viewer conversation... total and solitary absorption. He even threatens (jokingly so) to sit at the opposite end of the seating row from me...

All this brought about a rather light, semi joking, homeward bound car conversation... The hubby is just not a talker, not big on conversation... I'm the opposite. We laughed at how when you watch the news and they have the feel good segment with the couple celebrating their silver or golden wedding anniversary that the interviewer will always ask for the secret to a long marraige and the answer is often something like  'communication'... we laughed at what our tip would be and we settled on 'tolerance'... He tolerates my incessant natter and talking (with many a shush) and my constant sentences beginning with, "I've been thinking..." and I tolerate his shushes, his annoying habits - like cinema silence, compulsive tv channel flicking,   and need to nap at any given chance (you know, the big stuff... LOL)

Yep, I often think we are an odd couple... but it works... sometimes it's hard work... other times its not... some days we can make each other laugh till it hurts... and others we can infuriate each other to eye-popping extremes (well... maybe not that bad... hmmm... maybe?).

We had a nice night, I feel happy...

I have a wonderful partner in my husband and we've been blessed with two gorgeous and precious little girls... I am grateful and I just wanted to share it!

Little Little Miss M and Daddy... I LOVE this photo... It makes my heart smile :)

Tomorrow's a new day...

Tomorrow is a new day... and I've decided that I really need to get more motivated and I desperately have been wanting to post a new tutorial - any tutorial... just something that might get the creativeness going again...

Let's see what tomorrow brings... and as I contemplate sleep for the night, I pledge to bring you a tutorial... tomorrow (mañana, mañana... it's what my husband is jokingly always saying to me!)

And no post is complete without a photo of two of my most favourite girls in the world.... (oh, and I snuck into the photo too... a bit of a rarity, I tell you!)

Cheers... and together let's see what tomorrow brings...
